Schagen

Schagen is the place to be during your holiday to relax for a day. The city is full of heritage, which gives it an old, typically Dutch look. In addition, there are several museums that highlight the history of the city. But the rest of the municipality of Schagen is also worth a visit. Enjoy walking on the beach at Callantsoog, canoeing through the nature of Waarland and walking through the Wildrijk at Sins Maartenszee, to name a few examples.

A visit to the Westfriese Markt is also highly recommended. In the summer, the city is all about the ‘Westfriesche market days’ on 10 Thursdays. Dressed in traditional costumes, the antique horse-drawn carriages, coaches and other carriages come out of the stable. Then, in the shadow of the large church, a folkloric dance show is performed. During these market days, you will feel like you are back in the old days of Schagen.

We already mentioned it, but the Grote Kerk is also highly recommended in Schagen. From a distance you can recognize Schagen by the beautiful towers that rise above the city. It is a relatively new church (1895) but unique because of its Neo-Gothic architectural style.

To make a long story short: you will not be bored in Schagen.
